Abstract

With the emergence of present challenges in the labor market, especially the rising unemployment rate among graduates, entrepreneurship may offer a sustainable solution for young students. Though this approach is highly appreciable, funding remains a critical factor for start-ups particularly for students who struggle to manage initial capital. In this line, crowdfunding responds to the global funding challenge by enabling aspiring entrepreneurs to raise small contributions from a wide audience through digital platforms by enabling aspiring entrepreneurs to raise small contributions from a wide audience through digital platforms. This study intends to evaluate the viability of crowdfunding, identify the factors that influence its acceptance, and assess its potential to bridge the financial gap for student entrepreneurs by following qualitative research approach involving semi-structured interviews with 20 student entrepreneurs and 5 investors; and the Data has been collected from the Barishal district, southern part of Bangladesh. This study identifies key challenges and opportunities in adopting crowdfunding. Findings highlight financial barriers, trust issues, and the importance of platform transparency for students, while investors emphasize business viability and credibility. The study concludes that a collaborative approach among students, investors, and crowdfunding platforms is essential to fostering a supportive entrepreneurial ecosystem in Bangladesh.

  • Sujon Chandra Sarkar, National University

    Sujon Chandra Sarkar is a Faculty Member of Management Department at Government Brojomohun College, Barishal. In addition, he is a Master Trainer at Nottingham University, CEDP and Youth Development Authority. He has completed BBA and MBA in Management from the University of Dhaka. He also obtained MA in Education from University of Nottingham. He has been in teaching since 2014. His research articles and master's dissertations have been published in different journals. He attends different foreign symposiums and seminars. His research interest areas are education, pedagogy, learning sciences, business and entrepreneurship & Innovation.

  • Poli Akter, Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, Bangladesh

    Poli Akter is a Lecturer in the Department of Management at the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (OSD), Dhaka. Currently, she is working as a Research Associate at the Graduate School of International Cooperation Studies, specializing in International Cooperation Policy. Poli holds both a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Management from the University of Dhaka and has been teaching since May 2017. Her research interests primarily focus on Entrepreneurship and Innovation, as well as Education.
