Publication Policies

The Journal of Social Science & Multidisciplinary Enquiry (JSSME) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics, academic integrity, editorial independence, transparency, and responsible scholarly communication.

The journal expects all authors, reviewers, editors, editorial board members, and the publisher to adhere to recognized standards of ethical conduct in scholarly publishing.

This policy is developed with reference to the principles and guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), including its Core Practices, ethical guidelines for peer reviewers, and guidance on corrections and retractions.

1. Responsibilities of Authors

Authors submitting manuscripts to JSSME are expected to ensure that their work is original, accurately reported, ethically conducted, and appropriately documented.

Authors must:

  • ensure that the submitted manuscript represents original work;
  • ensure that the manuscript has not been published previously, in whole or in substantial part, unless explicitly permitted by the journal;
  • ensure that the manuscript is not simultaneously under consideration by another journal;
  • accurately report research methods, findings, sources, and interpretations;
  • provide appropriate citations and acknowledge the work of other scholars;
  • obtain appropriate permissions for copyrighted material where required;
  • disclose relevant funding and sources of financial or institutional support;
  • disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest;
  • comply with applicable ethical requirements for research involving human participants, personal data, vulnerable groups, or other ethically sensitive research;
  • ensure that all individuals listed as authors meet appropriate authorship criteria;
  • obtain the agreement of all authors before submission and ensure that all authors approve the final version;
  • cooperate with the journal in investigating allegations of misconduct and correcting the scholarly record when necessary.

Authors remain responsible for the accuracy and integrity of their submitted work.

2. Authorship and Contributorship

JSSME recognizes that authorship should reflect genuine intellectual or scholarly contribution to a publication.

Individuals who have made substantial contributions to the conception, design, research, analysis, interpretation, or substantial drafting or revision of the manuscript should be appropriately acknowledged as authors.

Honorary, guest, gift, or fictitious authorship is not acceptable. Individuals who have contributed to the work but do not qualify for authorship should be appropriately acknowledged where appropriate and with their permission.

Requests to add, remove, or change the order of authors after submission or publication must be supported by an explanation and, where applicable, agreement from all affected authors.

3. Originality, Plagiarism and Duplicate Publication

JSSME does not accept plagiarism or other forms of inappropriate appropriation of another person's intellectual work.

Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:

  • copying text without appropriate quotation and citation;
  • presenting another person's ideas, arguments, data, images, or findings as one's own;
  • substantial unattributed paraphrasing;
  • submitting another person's work under one's own name.

The journal may use plagiarism-detection or similarity-checking software as part of its editorial process.

Authors must also avoid duplicate, redundant, or overlapping publication. Substantial portions of a manuscript should not have been published elsewhere or simultaneously submitted to another journal.

4. Fabrication, Falsification and Manipulation of Data

JSSME considers fabrication, falsification, and deliberate manipulation of research data to be serious forms of research misconduct.

Examples include:

  • inventing data or results;
  • deliberately altering or selectively manipulating data;
  • manipulating images or figures in a misleading manner;
  • omitting relevant findings with the intention of creating a false impression;
  • presenting fabricated sources, participants, quotations, interviews, or research evidence.

5. Citation Manipulation and Misconduct

Authors, reviewers, and editors must not manipulate citations for the purpose of artificially increasing citation counts, journal metrics, author metrics, or perceived scholarly influence.

Authors should cite literature because it is relevant to the research. Reviewers should not require authors to cite the reviewer's own publications or unrelated publications as a condition of favourable review.

Editors and editorial staff must not require unnecessary citations to JSSME or publications associated with the journal for the purpose of increasing journal metrics.

6. Peer Review Ethics

JSSME uses a peer-review process designed to provide fair, objective, constructive, and scholarly evaluation of manuscripts.

Reviewers are expected to:

  • evaluate manuscripts objectively and constructively;
  • provide evidence-based comments relevant to the manuscript;
  • maintain confidentiality regarding submitted manuscripts;
  • disclose any actual or potential conflict of interest;
  • decline the review when they cannot provide an impartial assessment;
  • avoid using unpublished information obtained through peer review for personal advantage;
  • avoid inappropriate or discriminatory comments;
  • complete reviews within the agreed timeframe where reasonably possible.

7. Responsibilities of Editors

Editors of JSSME are responsible for maintaining the academic and ethical integrity of the journal.

Editorial decisions should be based primarily on the scholarly quality, originality, relevance, methodological soundness, and contribution of the manuscript.

Editors must:

  • maintain editorial independence;
  • treat authors fairly and respectfully;
  • protect the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts;
  • avoid discrimination based on irrelevant personal characteristics;
  • identify and manage conflicts of interest;
  • ensure appropriate peer review;
  • investigate credible allegations of misconduct;
  • provide appropriate opportunities for authors to respond to substantive allegations;
  • correct the scholarly record when necessary;
  • publish corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions where warranted.

8. Conflicts of Interest

A conflict of interest may arise when an individual's personal, professional, financial, institutional, academic, or other interests could reasonably be perceived as influencing their judgment.

Authors must disclose relevant conflicts of interest at submission. Reviewers must disclose conflicts and decline to review where such conflicts could compromise their impartiality.

Editors must not handle manuscripts where they have a significant conflict of interest. Such manuscripts should, where possible, be assigned to an independent editor.

↑ Back to top

9. Research Ethics and Ethical Oversight

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their research complies with relevant ethical and legal requirements.

Research involving human participants, personal data, vulnerable populations, or other ethically sensitive subjects should obtain appropriate ethical approval or institutional authorization where required.

Where applicable, manuscripts should provide information concerning:

  • ethical approval;
  • the approving institution or committee;
  • informed consent;
  • consent for publication;
  • protection of participant confidentiality;
  • procedures for handling sensitive or personally identifiable information.
↑ Back to top

10. Data Availability and Research Transparency

Authors should provide sufficient methodological information to allow readers to understand, evaluate, and, where appropriate, reproduce or verify the research.

Where applicable, authors should provide information concerning data availability, research materials, analytical procedures, or other supporting materials.

Where ethical, legal, privacy, copyright, or confidentiality restrictions prevent data sharing, authors should clearly explain the relevant limitations.

11. Use of Artificial Intelligence and AI-Assisted Tools

JSSME recognizes that artificial intelligence and AI-assisted tools may be used in scholarly research and manuscript preparation. Such tools must not replace the author's responsibility for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and ethical acceptability of the submitted work.

AI tools must not be listed as authors.

Authors remain fully responsible for:

  • the accuracy of AI-assisted content;
  • verification of references and factual claims;
  • originality and proper attribution;
  • protection of confidential or sensitive information;
  • compliance with copyright and intellectual-property requirements;
  • disclosure of AI use where required by the journal's AI policy.

12. Confidentiality

The journal will make reasonable efforts to maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and editorial communications.

Editors, reviewers, and editorial staff must not disclose information about a manuscript to unauthorized individuals.

Information obtained through peer review or editorial consideration must not be used for personal or professional advantage.

↑ Back to top

13. Complaints and Appeals

JSSME provides authors with the opportunity to raise legitimate concerns regarding editorial decisions, peer review, publication procedures, or ethical matters.

An appeal should:

  • clearly identify the manuscript;
  • explain the specific grounds for the appeal;
  • provide relevant evidence or information;
  • distinguish disagreement with a scholarly judgment from an allegation of procedural or ethical error.

Appeals will be reviewed by the Editor-in-Chief or another appropriate editor who was not directly involved in the original decision, where practicable.

↑ Back to top

14. Allegations of Research or Publication Misconduct

Allegations of misconduct may be raised by authors, reviewers, readers, editors, institutions, whistleblowers, or other parties.

Concerns may relate to:

  • plagiarism;
  • fabrication or falsification;
  • duplicate or redundant publication;
  • inappropriate authorship;
  • undisclosed conflicts of interest;
  • unethical research;
  • manipulated peer review;
  • citation manipulation;
  • fraudulent or misleading information.

The journal will assess allegations on a case-by-case basis and may request explanations, supporting documentation, or institutional clarification where appropriate.

15. Corrections, Expressions of Concern and Retractions

JSSME is committed to maintaining an accurate and permanent scholarly record.

When an error or ethical problem is identified after publication, the journal may publish:

  • Correction/Erratum: for a significant error that can be corrected without invalidating the main findings or conclusions.
  • Expression of Concern: where there is a substantial unresolved concern about the reliability or integrity of a publication.
  • Retraction: where the findings or conclusions are sufficiently unreliable, or where serious ethical or publication misconduct compromises the integrity of the article.

Retraction notices will be linked to the original article and will clearly identify the reason for the action. The original publication will normally remain part of the scholarly record with an appropriate retraction notice rather than being silently removed.

↑ Back to top

16. Editorial Independence

Editorial decisions should be made independently of commercial, financial, political, personal, or other inappropriate influences.

Publication fees, waivers, institutional relationships, advertising, sponsorship, or other business considerations must not determine whether a manuscript is accepted or rejected.

↑ Back to top

Authors are responsible for ensuring that submitted material does not unlawfully infringe the intellectual-property rights of others.

All sources, quotations, images, tables, figures, datasets, and other third-party materials must be appropriately acknowledged and used in accordance with applicable copyright and licensing requirements.

↑ Back to top

18. Editorial and Reviewer Misconduct

JSSME recognizes that misconduct may also occur within the editorial or peer-review process.

Examples include:

  • inappropriate disclosure of confidential manuscripts;
  • manipulation of peer review;
  • coercive citation practices;
  • preferential treatment of particular authors;
  • undisclosed conflicts of interest;
  • misuse of unpublished information;
  • interference with editorial decisions for personal, institutional, or financial reasons.
↑ Back to top

19. Post-Publication Discussion

JSSME supports responsible scholarly discussion after publication.

Readers may communicate substantive concerns regarding published articles to the journal. Where appropriate, the journal may facilitate scholarly responses, corrections, clarifications, or other post-publication discussion.

20. Responsibilities of the Publisher

Noesis Publishing, as the publisher of JSSME, supports the journal's commitment to publication ethics and academic integrity.

The publisher will:

  • provide appropriate infrastructure for editorial and publication processes;
  • support the investigation of suspected misconduct;
  • cooperate with editors and relevant institutions when ethical concerns arise;
  • support the publication of corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions when appropriate;
  • maintain the integrity and accessibility of the published scholarly record.

21. Handling Ethical Issues Involving Editors or Publisher

Where an allegation concerns the Editor-in-Chief, a member of the editorial board, or the publisher, the matter should be handled by an independent editor or appropriate authority who is not directly involved in the allegation, where reasonably possible.

Where necessary, the journal may seek external advice or refer the matter to the relevant institution or research-integrity body.

↑ Back to top

22. Good-Faith Reporting and Protection from Retaliation

JSSME encourages authors, reviewers, readers, and other members of the scholarly community to report credible concerns regarding research or publication misconduct.

Reports should be made in good faith and supported by relevant evidence where possible.

The journal will treat legitimate concerns seriously and will make reasonable efforts to protect complainants and whistleblowers from inappropriate retaliation, while respecting the rights of all parties involved.

23. Policy Review

JSSME will periodically review this Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement to ensure that it remains consistent with developments in scholarly publishing, research-integrity standards, and relevant COPE guidance.

Where misconduct or serious error is established, JSSME will take appropriate action to correct the scholarly record.
